NER Employees complete IMPACT Training

During the week of June 14th, every NER employee located at our corporate facility participated in IMPACT training. The classes were extensive, intense yet very enjoyable for all. Here’s a little bit about IMPACT.

IMPACT is a Continuous Improvement Philosophy with Four Guiding Principles:
1. Total System approach where we look at how our actions affect the entire system so that we avoid creating problems elsewhere in the chain.
2. Process and Result driven where we understand that improved processes are the only way to get improved results.
3. Problems are Treasures that should be embraced for the opportunities they create.
4. Non-Judgmental approach to improvements fosters open communication and teamwork

IMPACT Promotes Seven Concepts to help Improve our Performance:
1. Quality at the Source
2. Speak with Data
3. Incremental Improvements
4. Customer/Market Focus
5. Standardized Work
6. Pre-Production Pioneering
7. Customer Identification

Lastly, IMPACT also Encourages Elimination of Waste Through the use of 7S
1. Separate and eliminate unnecessary items
2. Straighten necessary items in order for easy access and cleaning
3. Scrub every…make it clean
4. Safety is important…remove hazards from the workplace
5. Spread the message of the first four steps and make it a ‘way of life’
6. Standardize the first five steps with a system
7. Satisfy the internal and external customers

NER is dedicated to excellence in all that we do. Our renewed dedication to IMPACT in our process-oriented business will help us achieve our goal of being a World-Class organization.

Get to Know the People Behind NER

NER’s Steve Oatway, CEO and Chris Oatway, CFO recently sat down for an interview with Herb Cohen of The Executive Leaders Radio Show. Executive Leaders Radio conducts interviews of prominent CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CIOs and Presidents focusing on “what makes people tick.” Steve and Chris share insights into NER’s success and future as well as the dynamics of working with family members. In this day when CEOs and CFOs are shown in a negative light, it is refreshing to hear the positive aspects of what it takes to succeed.

Listen to the show via the web during the initial broadcast on Friday June 25th. Chris and Steve’s segment is scheduled to air approximately at 10:30am EDT. You can access the stream here. We will post the audio archive on our site as soon as it becomes available.

SwitchAir Advanced Cooling Solutions - New Product Introduction

Network Switch Cooling
Effective cool air delivery for network switches with side-to-side, side-to-rear and rear-to-front airflow. Maintain a perfectly controlled environment for your network switches with SwitchAirTM and EC Containment CoolingTM Systems from Opengate

Switch port density makes it very convenient to place network switches facing the rear of rack where sever port density resides to simplify network cabling. Due to switch high-port density, intake air is typically at the sides of the switch chassis with heat exhaust out the rear or other side of the network switch chassis.

SwitchAir 2U ensures up to two rear mounted switches are able to receive the required cool air from outside the rack. Use SwitchAir Cooling for effective cool air delivery to rear rack mounted 1U switches.

1U Switch air models are available.

SwitchAir delivers air to the switch via the SwitchAir Channels. SwitchAir 2U works with switches having; side intake-rear exhaust, side intake-side exhaust and rear intake-front exhaust. You can even stack switches with varying airflow patterns together.

• Quick and simple installation, SwitchAir installs in minutes
• Safely installs on network switches already in operation
• Developed in coordination with IT and network groups – ensures flexibility for most network switch types and installation methods
• Network switch receives cool air from outside the front of the rack and is delivered to the switch without hot air contamination
• Allows the continued practice of placing network switches inside the rack even with high-heat loads commonly generated by today’s energy efficient servers

Stop Wasting Money Cooling Your Facility

Did You Know?
▪ Missing 1U of blanking panels in each rack can result in almost $35,000 of additional annual cooling costs.
▪ Loosing CFM through raised floor cutouts could cost almost $50,000 in additional cooling during the year.
▪ Studies show cool supply air leakage can exceed 15% which can be significant since cooling is 40% of your electric bill each month.

NER offers Significant Savings Through Simple Solutions

By optimizing your cooling infrastructure, you can save thousands of dollars. According to the EPA’s Data Center report, improved airflow management can result in up to 30% improvement in infrastructure energy efficiency. Best of all, airflow infrastructure improvements can be done without disruption to any IT equipment inside your facility

NER Airflow Efficiency Solutions provide the means to minimize or eliminate bypass airflow (leakage) and mixing of cold supply with hot exhaust air.

Cooling Optimization
▪ KoldLok raised floor grommets
▪ PlenaForm below-floor baffles
▪ PolarDAM air dam foam & skirts
▪ HotSpotr floor tile air mover
▪ Rack dividers, inserts & end panels
▪ Cable Management
▪ HotLok blanking panels
▪ PlenaFill blanking panels
▪ Demand Based Cooling

Containment Solutions
