Green Data Center Ideas from NER

Green Computing is a common theme for almost every IT, Facilities, and Data Center Manager. Implementation of simple Best Practices along with server virtualization have been performed in order to become more energy efficient. However, the continued demand for higher computer and storage power increases, and IT energy consumption continues to grow at a staggering pace.

Based on studies and data released by the EPA, Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, Afcom, and industry experts:

• Data center energy use doubled between 2000 and 2006; by 2012, energy use is expected to double again.
• For many industries, data centers are one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions.
• Between now and 2010, U.S. demand for data center energy will require the equivalent of 10 new power plants.
• Government legislation could lead to companies being required to report energy usage and carbon emissions

Through innovation and focus, NER continually improves data center energy efficiency. Infrastructure Optimization Solutions (iOS) enable us to go beyond Best-Practices to provide scalable and sustainable improvements for data centers both large and small.

We enable data center clients to achieve their Greening goals through:
• Energy efficiency assessments
• Utility rebate coordination
• Cooling System Optimization
• Monitoring and reporting of key metrics
• Capacity Planning and Modeling for optimization
